Position Summary:
The Large Animal Ambulatory Veterinary Technician or Large Animal Ambulatory Veterinary Assistant serves as support staff for the College of Veterinary Medicine Large Animal Ambulatory Service through effective clinical, communication, and managerial assistance. This position performs a wide variety of clinical and managerial duties for the Large Animal Ambulatory Service.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide clinical assistance and managerial duties supporting the Large Animal Ambulatory Service team
Organize and maintain the schedule for the Large Animal Ambulatory Service
Manage the day-to-day operations of the Large Animal Ambulatory Service, including but not limited to assisting the Large Animal Ambulatory veterinary personnel in equine and livestock medical, surgical, and/or herd health procedures
Provide exemplary customer service skills while workings with students, parents, staff, faculty, ambulatory service clientele, local non-University affiliated veterinarians, and/or University affiliated veterinarians/veterinary specialists via phone, email, in person and confidentially documenting/responding to inquiries through e-mail, phone, and in person
Manage inventory and order supplies for the ambulatory service and ambulatory vehicles to ensure a productive and efficient ambulatory service
Manage financial records of ambulatory services performed to report to the College of Veterinary Medicine
Maintain various computerized and paper files, records, and logs, and retrieve information as needed for reference or to compile reports
Maintain positive working relationships with all stakeholders inside and outside the A-State College of Veterinary Medicine
Assist in veterinary student training as needed
Drive the ambulatory truck
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Must be able to work with but not limited to horses, cattle, sheep, goats, and/or pigs.
Knowledge of common safety and restraint protocols for handling horses, cattle, sheep, goats, and/or pigs .
Knowledge in proper aseptic technique.
Must be able to drive a vehicle in the state of Arkansas.
Must become proficient in medical reporting software.
Effective communication (both oral and written) and critical thinking skills.
Knowledge of basic accounting principles.
Ability to multi-task.
Ability to handle confidential information.
Must be proficient in Microsoft 365 and Office Suites software.

Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications:
Registered/Licensed veterinary technician (RVT) with focus in large animals (either horses and/or livestock).
Preferred Qualification: RVT plus at least two years experience.
An equivalent combination of years of experience and education may be considered for substitution of educational requirements.
