Director of Social Work Field Education
Frostburg State University's Department of Social Work seeks applications for a full-time, tenure-track Instructor/Assistant Professor of Social Work to serve as the Director of Social Work Field Education. This position is available to begin in Fall 2025. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications; University System of Maryland benefits package included.
The social work program (undergraduate) is the only accredited social work program in Western Maryland. We have approximately 100 students (majors and pre-majors) who represent the geographic, racial, and gender diversity of the state of Maryland.
The Social Work Department is within FSU's College of Education, Health and Natural Sciences. The mission of the College of Education, Health and Natural Sciences is to deliver inclusive and student-centered programs that promote experiential learning to develop life-long learning skills that will meet the needs of an ever-changing society. The College engages students, faculty, and staff in collaborative efforts to reach high standards, promote diversity and ensure equity in all programs.
Responsibilities: The Director of Social Work Field Education is responsible for the oversight of all aspects of undergraduate field education including the following:
- Recruitment and maintenance of field placement agencies, supervisors, and liaisons.
- Establishment and maintenance of field placement affiliation agreements.
- Conducting orientation and training sessions for field placement supervisors and liaisons.
- Conducting orientation sessions for students.
- Maintaining and updating student files, documents, and assessments related to field education.
- Usage of electronic field education software.
- Teach the field seminar course as well as additional courses throughout the fall and spring semesters.
- Prepare students for the BSW licensure exam.
- Collaborate with the Chair of the Social Work Department on issues related to departmental policies, reaffirmation of accreditation, and curriculum changes.
- Assist with student advising and recruitment.
Minimum Qualifications: - MSW degree from a CSWE-accredited program, with a minimum of two years (five or more years preferred), full-time practice experience in social work. DSW or Ph.D. in Social Work/Social Welfare or related discipline, (Psychology, Education, Counseling, etc.).
- Licensed social worker in the State of Maryland, or license eligible.
- Knowledge of CSWE Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards as well as the missions and standards of ASWB and NASW.
- Familiarity with undergraduate social work curriculum and generalist social work practice.
- Either experience with social work field education (e.g., field instructor, field liaison, etc.) or administrative, management, and/or supervisory experience.
- Experience in teaching college/university social work courses.
Preferred Qualifications: - Familiarity with establishing and maintaining collaborative partnerships with agencies suitable for undergraduate social work field placements, particularly in Western Maryland.
- Experience with electronic and online information management systems.
